Why Seabirds Matter

Seabirds are vital indicators of ocean health, acting as sentinels for changes in marine ecosystems. They connect land, sea, and sky, offering invaluable insights into the challenges facing our oceans, from climate change to overfishing and habitat degradation. Studying seabirds not only helps us understand their needs but also sheds light on the broader health of marine biodiversity.

A New Home for Collaboration and Learning

Observing Seabirds: Understanding Oceans is more than a static resource; it is a dynamic hub that brings together cutting-edge science, interactive tools, and stories from the field. Visitors will find a wealth of features, including:

  • Research Highlights: Learn about key findings from the Global Seabird Working Group’s ongoing studies, from species- and site-specific research to ecosystem-level analyses.
  • Educational Resources: Access a growing library of materials designed to educate and inspire, whether you’re a student, a teacher, or simply a curious ocean enthusiast.
  • Calls to Action: Discover ways to support seabird conservation. Celebrating, monitoring, and protecting seabirds can help us understand changes, and what can be done to turn declining trends around.
